Magnesium and Vitamin D: Two halves of the greatest whole.

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

People today are finally waking up to the fact that most western countries are vitamin D deficient, but is that really true? To find this out we have to explore what Vitamin D really is. So what is Vitamin D? Most people think it is a vitamin but in fact it is actually a hormone. Though it often referred to as a vitamin because we cannot live without it. The other part of this equation is that Vitamin D is a fat soluble hormone. Hormones Engage bodily

processes, and Vitamin D is no different. Vitamin D is chief in it's ability to boost your body's Calcium and Phosphorus absorption which makes it a prime proponent of bone health. This used to be the only thing aside from energy that vitamin D was good for but thats only the tip of the iceberg.
Vitamin D has been shown to:

  • Promotes Cell Metabolism - which can stop lousy Cell and Tissue from forming

  • Boosts Thyroid Health - Protects that Thyroid from immune cells damaging and causing things like Hashimotos Thyroiditis.

  • Adrenal Glad function - Makes stress management and adrenal glad function run smooth

  • Emotion Regulation - Creates serotonin in the brain.

  • gut microbiome health – activates vitamin D receptors in the gut to maintain a healthy gut lining.

  • Blood sugar stabilization– boosts the bodies insulin release and glucose tolerance.

  • Immune function – increases the amount of immune cells and reduces inflammation to control infections.

This is all nice but it may not be a Vitamin D deficiency but a MAGNESIUM deficiency. The problem is the only way the body can make Vitamin D is through the Liver and Kidney. However with the lack of magnesium most people also suffer from. It can hinder the bodies natural production. The problem lies in the soil production. As the world becomes bigger and faster and faster turnover of farmland and monocropping, the soil becomes less nutrient dense. Magnesium top mineral that s being hit in this department. What is the solution to these problems? Well there is the quick and convenient way, supplementation; getting things like magnesium bicarbonate, magnesium glycinate, magnesium chloride, and Vitamin D. However I feel this should only be a Band-Aid solution to temporarily stabilize you until you can make true lifestyle changes. Eating foods rich in vitamin D and Magnesium, getting outside in the sun. Simple measures can be taken daily by simply walking after meals. A simple 2-3 15 minutes walks daily can do wonders for your hormonal health not jut your body.
